OUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY: GIS Training on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico

Juniper GIS is partnering with two conservation organizations to offer two one-week GIS training sessions in Mexico in October 2010.  Cost is only $750 for the one-week introductory/intermediate GIS class.  This is an opportunity to enhance your GIS skills and to work with and support local conservation groups. Two chances to take this class:

  • Cancun, Mexico in partnership with Amigos de Sian Ka'an, October 25 - 29.
  • Akumal, Mexico in partnership with Centro Ecologico Akumal, October 18 - 22.

South Slough National Estuary Visitor Center - view from the GIS classroomClose to home in Oregon, we did two classes for the South Slough National Estuary in Charleston, Oregon. GIS training was open to people working for organizations that affected the estuary. Training was held at their visitor center, high in the hills overlooking the estuary.

 


GIS for Environmental Studies taught in Mahahual, Mexico for Global Visions InternationalJuniper GIS South is Mahahual, Mexico. We taught a GIS class here for Global Visions International and some local residents. Focus was on environmental projects and mapping the coastline and the reefs. Dress and environment are casual, but the learning is serious GIS.

 

 

 


Class taught at the Florida Panther Wildlife RefugeThis class for the US Fish & Wildlife Service at the Florida Panther Wildlife Refuge. We never saw a panther but the gators got pretty close. The class learned about using GIS for fire modeling to protect habitat.

 

 


Masai Mara Reserve in KenyaSociety for Conservation GIS - Kenya, 1st Conference
We taught a post conference, advanced GIS class for 30 conference participants who work with environmental groups. Class exercises focused on the Masai Mara Preserve, so we had to do a safari in this preserve after the class.
