Juniper GIS is offering a five and a half-day GIS class in Spain this coming spring. This course will be held in Cala Sant Vicenç on the Spanish island of Mallorca, from April 9 to April 14 for $2,500, including lodging.
The class, Working with ArcGIS for Environmental Analysis, is appropriate for new GIS users and for experienced GIS users wanting more in-depth instruction. Juniper GIS courses are based on real projects, with an emphasis on the skills needed to successfully complete your projects. Students will learn key GIS skills including compiling and organizing data, understanding projections, using symbology and labels, working with tables, editing data, performing analysis, and creating finished maps while working through realistic GIS projects. Students will also be introduced to some advanced skills – working with Spatial Analyst, using ModelBuilder, and using Google Earth. Students will earn 40 hours of education credit towards the GIS Professional (GISP) certificate. The final session will be a data collection exercise in the neighboring mountains or along the coast Saturday morning, September 14, followed by a BBQ lunch and certificate ceremony.

The GIS instructor will be John Schaeffer, who has 19 years experience using and teaching GIS, is a certified ESRI instructor, and was one of the first people to earn the ESRI Desktop Associate Certification. There will also be an assistant to ensure that all students get the highest quality instruction. All students must bring a laptop loaded with ArcGIS 10 and Spatial Analyst. If you do not have this software, you can download an evaluation copy from ESRI before coming to the class.
The course will be held in the Cala Sant Vicenç, a small coastal resort located 10 minutes drive from the picturesque village of Pollença. The north of the island of Mallorca is known for its beautiful coastline, small traditional towns, friendly people and stunning coves. This part of Mallorca has been home to many artists, attracted by its beauty and relaxing atmosphere. Cala Sant Vicenç is located approximately 1 hour from the Palma airport.
The cost is $2,500 USD and includes lodging at Cala 4 Holidays villas, most lunches, and all manuals and training materials. You should arrange flights to Palma to arrive Sunday, April 8 and allow approximately 2 hours for transit to Cala Sant Vicenç.
